Municipal Park “El Pandero”

Description

Gelves is a town with a predominance of green areas, which make it a pleasant place to live and visit. As well as offering three large natural parks in the middle of the Aljarafe cornice, such as “El Pandero”, “Los Manantiales”, “El Cañuelo”… it has sixteen more urban parks where adults and children enjoy their space, their plants and their different urban furniture, many of them with children’s playgrounds. The municipality of Gelves cannot be understood without its link to nature. Surrounded by the best preserved stretch of the aforementioned Ajarafe cornice and by the river Guadalquivir, it is still an idyllic place, described in some literary works as an orchard, with its fine waters, lush vegetation and fertile orchards, offering a wonderful alternative for spending long periods of time away from the nearby capital of Andalusia. This park is located in an old estate of the same name, owned by the municipality, at the foot of the northernmost part of the Aljarafe cornice. The most significant feature of this green area is that it has the well-preserved remains of an ancient Romanesque aqueduct (16th century), around which an interesting garden has been created where you can enjoy a great variety of aromatic plants that offer a very pleasant and instructive walk to its visitors. There is also a large barbecue area in the part closest to the cornice, which is very popular with locals and visitors alike. In its restoration, special emphasis has been placed on the rehabilitation of old elements such as: mines, stones belonging to an ancestral water mill, natural springs, pools, a waterwheel and the aforementioned aqueduct. A part of its orchard structure has also been preserved in the land between the waterwheel and the remains of the farmhouse, maintaining the plant species of landscape interest, as well as replacing the orange trees on the rest of the estate with native tree and shrub species, which give the space greater interest and diversity. The Pandero Park is an opportunity to enjoy nature in the heart of the town, just a few kilometres from the capital. Nature, history and leisure come together in this well cared for and pampered park so that families and visitors can admire it in all its splendour.
