Metropolitan Green Corridor

Description

This section of the Green Corridor of the Metropolitan Area of Seville runs along the Guadalquivir valley, except for the part of the Aljarafe cornice, where Gelves is located. It runs along a gently sloping and easily accessible area made up of livestock trails and the banks of the Guadalquivir. The route connects the municipalities of Coria, Palomares del Río Gelves, Mairena del Aljarafe, San Juan de Aznalfarache, Sevilla, Camas and Santiponce with the rest of the sections of the aforementioned green corridor. This initiative offers cyclists and walkers a new space for leisure and environmental education. The Seville Metropolitan Green Corridor serves as a link for a highly urbanised area, facilitating non-polluting transport. The route, which is uninterrupted, connects with the urban cycle lanes already in place or in the pipeline in Seville, Dos Hermanas and Aljarafe. The connection with the previous section is made once the cycle lane separates from the Guadaira river in search of La Corchuela Park. At this point, if you take the path to the right in the direction of Coria del Río, you will reach the barge that crosses the Gualdalquivir and leads to the town of Coria del Río. From this point the route follows the Colada del Callejón de la Magdalena, linking up with the Cordel de Ugena until it reaches the village of Palomares del Río. The landscape in this area is entirely agricultural. The next village to be crossed is that of Gelves, which is reached via the Colada de Gelves. It passes into this municipality at the junction of the Colada de Gelves with the roundabout at the access to the Simón Verde housing estate, and ends at the Gelves cemetery. It is a section with a slight initial slope which disappears after 200 m, forming a flat route which runs along the edge of the Aljarafe cornice with excellent views of Seville and the Guadalquivir valley. This route is located between the parks of La Cornisa and Los Manantiales. After crossing an urban section and the “El Pandero” park, the Green Corridor runs along the Cornisa del Aljarafe and ends at the San Juan de Aznalfarache sports centre, where it joins the route that runs along the banks of the Guadalquivir. Once past the town of Camas, take the turning to the left along the cordel del Alamillo, between the Gambogaz farmhouse and the Giralda campsite, ending at the Monumental Complex of Italica, in Santiponce, which still conveys the splendour of this ancient Roman city.
